West Sikkim is yet to be fully explored due to the remoteness. Pelling is one of the most visited destinations of Sikkim. Yuksom and Ravangla is close to Pelling. Yuksom has many options for tourist. The beautiful little town of Pelling is located at a distance of nearly 135 kilometers from Siliguri and 130 kilometers from Gangtok. Either way its 4 - 4 ½ hours drive. Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries literally means Perfect Sublime Lotus and was founded in 1705 of Nyingma - pa sect. Sangachoeling Monastery can be approached by a short walk from Pelling. On a clear day spectacular views of mount Khanchendzonga and other peaks of Himalayan Range is worth appreciating. The places of interest in this region are Kecheopalri Lake, Kanchendzonga falls, Rock Garden, Dentam Cheese factory, Changey waterfalls, Pemayangtse monastery, Sing shore Bridge and much more. Pelling, Sikkim : Around 10 kms from Gyalshing, Pelling is today emerging as the second biggest tourist destination in the state after Gangtok. Although in itself it is little more than a strip of road lined with hotels, its main USP is the breathtaking view it offers of the Khangchendzonga and surrounding ranges, as well as the easy access it provides to tourist spots in the area. Pemayangste monastery is less than a kilometre from Pelling while a 40 minute walk on the hill opposite the monastery takes you to Sanga Choling monastery built in 1697, one of the first in the state.
Kanchendzonga Waterfalls : After an hour and a half drive from Pelling, one comes across Kanchendzonga twin Water Falls. On way to Yuksom, it is a place not to be missed by the tourists for its breathtaking beauty of a wild torrent of water cascading down granite rocks. It is an amazing sight and most visitors stop to marvel at this great symbiosis of sound and sight.
Kecheopalri Lake : Situated at a distance of 25 kms.from Pelling, it is considered to be one of the sacred lakes of the State both by the Buddhist and the Hindus. The Lake remains hidden under the rich forest cover. The birds do not permit even a single leaf to float on the lake surface. There is motorable road from Pemayangtse right up to the lake area. For those interested in spending a night or two in the peaceful environment, a trekker's hut is available. There is also a Pilgrim Hut.
Rabdentse Ruins :This was the second capital of the erstwhile Kingdom after Yuksom and till the year 1814 A.D., the King of Sikkim ruled from this place. Today, the ruins lie hidden from the main road at a walking distance from the Pemayangtse Monastery. The scenic view from the top of the ruins scanning across the valley to the mystic heights of Khang-chen-Dzonga range is something to be cherished and etched in memory.
Sang-Choling monastery : This monastery is situated on a ridge above Pelling facing the Pemayangtse Monastery. Built in 1697 A.D. it is considered to be one of the oldest monasteries of the State. To reach the Monastery a comfortable trek of forty minutes can be undertaken.
Sewaro Rock Garden : Sewaro rock Garden developed by the Tourism and CIvil Aviation Department of Sikkim with facilities like gardens, pools, zigzag foot path and interesting recreation amenities like swimming pool, viewpoints and cafeteria. This has now come up as one of the popular picnic spot for the locals in Sikkim where many local picnic parties arrive here in winter. On the other side is village inhabited by local people from mixed communities and schools with beautiful children.
Darap Cherry Village : About 6 kilometers from Pelling on the way to Yuksam is Darap Village in habited mainly by People from Limboo Community and a small number of families from mixed communities like Bhutias, Chettris, Tamangs, Rais, Gurungs and Lepchas. The land escape of the area is moderately sloppy and gentle valley unlike other locations in west. Because of its location advantage as it is merely some minutes’ drive away from Pelling Darap possesses tourism potential and the educated youths of this village are actively in to activities of promotion of this little valley.
